Top 5 newest cinemas

Newest Cinemas in Singapore

#1 Golden Village Funan Mall

At this totally revamped lifestyle mall located in City Hall, there are Gemini, Deluxe Plus and Gold Class Express halls.

#2 Shaw Theatres Jewel Changi Airport

Much is already known about the famed waterfall, and the cinema which features 11 screens including lumiere and Dreamers halls is just as impressive.

#3 Shaw Theatres Seletar

Seletar Mall houses this cinema, and it is a new mall in Sengkang Central, catering mostly to residents in the north east area.

#4 Golden Village Suntec City

The cinema at Suntec City has changed quite a bit. It used to be Eng Wah's "flagship" cinema, which was later rebranded at WE Cinemas, and now it has been taken over by Golden Village. It is a sleek cinema with a in-house escalator that takes you to the theatres, and since it can be pretty quiet during non-peak hours such as early weekday screenings - when everyone else in the Central Business District have not sneaked out of the office for a movie - we reckon that this is a great peaceful place for a good show without the crying babies and ringing phones.

#5 Filmgarde Century Square Mall

Filmgarde's third cinema with six screens and close to 1,000 seats, serving residents in Tampines.

Past rankings:

WE Cinemas by Eng Wah, Clementi
Following a hiatus from the local cinematic scene, WE Cinemas makes a comeback with its latest - and only - cinema housing 10 screens and over 700 seats. It offers "First Class", its premium variant of our familiar "Gold Class", so you can tell others you've booked a First Class seat on a two hour "flight" to the virtual world. No delays, we hope.

Golden Village Capitol
This is one big single theatre, chic and can fill up to 800 patrons. It is located on prime land just opposite the City Hall MRT station.

Shaw Theatres Waterway Point
Interestingly, this cinema is located at Basement 2 of the shopping mall at Punggol Central. Most cinemas in Singapore are located at the top level of the mall, allowing for a higher ceiling in the theatres (and because rental on higher floors is cheaper, too). We say this is the most down to earth cinema in Singapore.

Cathay Cineplex Jem
Cathay's latest addition will open in September 2013. This 10-screen cinema is located at Jem, just next to Jurong East MRT. The mall opened in June 2013 while the cineplex was undergoing construction.

Cathay Cineplex West Mall
The floor space was previously occupied by WE Cinemas, and has since been taken over by Cathay Cineplexes and fully renovated with 6 halls. This is Cathay's first cineplex to feature the Elite Club, which feature superior seats and even wider legroom. It commenced operations in February 2013.

Golden Village City Square Mall
This is the first in Singapore to feature an autogate for patrons to enter the walkway leading to the theatres.

Golden Village Katong
One-of-a-kind perankan style cinema located on East Coast Road.

Shaw Theatres JCube
Singapore's second IMAX theatre is at JCube. Though smaller than the one at Shaw Lido, it is said to similarly deliver a completely immersive experience.
